Content For Your Main Page

You will need to edit your main page and add some content. This is helpful for a few reasons. First, it will get you familiar with the built in editor and how that works and it will give your new visitors something to read so they know you're here and that yours is a working website. The really hard part will be figuring out what to say to your viewers.

  • What to consider adding to your main page might be a paragraph about you or what you have to offer (what kind of products you sell). Keep in mind to choose your wording carefully and use keywords that you want a search engine to pick up so that they index your site. Without actual content and keywords, the search engines will not index your site.

General Guidelines To Create Powerful Content

Keep your content as conversational as possible as it helps clients see themselves already using your products or services. For example, Our services will help you achieve your financial goals, will create more personal involvement as opposed to - Our services help our clients achieve their financial goals. Keep your content as short as possible as clients will avoid reading a page full of text. Break it up into paragraphs of really no more than 3-5 sentences each. Or better yet use point form. And include pictures if you can. Adding powerful and relevant pictures will create interest, help break up text, and give clients a better idea of your products or services.

Sell the benefits of your products or services not the features as this helps potential clients see why they need to use your products or services and what it can do for them. For example, "Our fashionable sunglasses protect your eyes from the full spectrum of the sun's rays" sells much better than "Our sunglasses have UVB, UVA, etc, protection".

List all the features on one side of a piece of paper. On the other side of the paper, list what those features will do for your client. Now from here you can start forming the content for your website from these benefits. In other words, what's in it for my clients?
